The weather here has been horrible....snow, sleet, rain, cold and wind. Yesterday was the first decent day in the last week....and probably the last that I'll see for another week. I'm swamped at school and in a panic mode as there's less than 2 weeks before my kids take their AP Biology test. I came home to work and looked out to see all my woodies so I decided to take a couple of shots. I know some don't like closeups but I couldn't resist when she was looking in my window. This looked better last night than this morning....must be sleep deprivation and old age!!

This is the "Eddie Bauer 4 towel method". I loaned my tripod to the art teacher to shoot slides of student's work for their portfolios so I had to stack up 4 towels on the window sill and shoot.

Canon 1DMkII, 500mmL IS, 1.4XTC, "4 towels"
ISO 400, f/10, ss 1/400
PS: cropped, USM, etc.

Lana, beautiful bird with gorgeous colors ! Very sharp...even though you have to use towels instead of a tripod!

Lana, your towels work their magic far better than most folk's tripods!! - although I have my suspicions that its pretty much all down to the hand and eye behind the camera where the real talent lies!!

I wouldn't have been able to resist a close up of this beauty either - the school work will still be there long after she's gone. Gorgeous colours and detail - and that eye is looking right at you! Great shot!! 8) 8) 8) 8) :D

The fabulous shot has nothing to do with whatever towels Lana uses I'm sure. It all boils down to one thing - her skill.

A perfect intimate head shot!

Terrific portrait of the little lady! 4 towels huh........ I'll have to try that as it obviously works. Who needs a tripod?

Absolutely killer portrait, regardless of the camera support.

Yeah, Lana, I agree: it's all about the towels. One towel framed the shot. Another towel set the exposure. A third towel pushed the shutter button. The fourth towel did the postproduction. Talented towels.

I usually carry three towels, but I'm adding a fourth for my upcoming De Soto trip.

Cheers, my friend.

Way to go Lana, awesome detail despite the lack of tripod. I feel your pain on the weather!
I personally love the close ups.

Great Job!

Lana,

Wonderful portrait. You can't get a sharper image than this. The towels worked great. Let the art teacher keep the tripod!

Very well done, as usual, Lana. I like the towel story, I need to try that technique. :D
