I have taken the liberty of posting my rework of your owl so you and the other members see what I was talking about in my earlier reply.

Obviously, this kind of work is better done on a full-sized file, not the small web-sized jpeg, so this is a bit crude. But I thought everyone might like to see it.

Yep, if you forgot to sharpen it that would be the reason it looks the way it does. :) Wonderful little guy. The bright highlight is sort of a spot light for him. :)

A sweet face and the body pose goes right along with it. I'd be empted to tone down the light areas in the BG.
