I had been set up on this female Harrier, waiting for her to fly. Another female came by vocalizing and made a couple of swoops nearby, causing this reaction. They were never close enough to get in the same frame.

It was a bit of experimenting to crop this shot, I finally decided to leave quite a bit of fence and wire in it.

Canon 20D, 500mm, ISO200, 1/1000sec/ f/5.6, Handheld from car.

Very cool shot! I would maybe blur the BG a bit more. Where the heck is the light source? Reflections off of snow?

A fine image, Harold. Beautiful wingspread. It would be hard to avoid the fence; you made the correct decision. I like the BG.

Beautiful feel to this. Great pose. Don't you love the free fill you get shooting with snow on the ground?

Not often you find a harrier perched and especially one perched that allows a close approach! The perch could be better but with these guys you sure can't be picky! Nice catch.

Great shot. I like this a lot. The fence does not bother me at all.

I think you made the correct comp decision on this Harold. After chasing a female Harrier all over Bolsa Chica yesterday afternoon and coming away with nothing, I truly appreciate your results here! In my experience, when these gals land they don't stay put for very long, especially when approached... terrific work here Harold. 8)

The bird is so awesome that I hardly mind the fence & wire. I love the wing stretch and the position of the feet. Beautiful shot Harold!!! 8) 8) 8)

Harold, The harrier pose looks great, I'm not keen on the fence.
