As i will leaving for my annual trek to Finland in 1 1/2 week i thought i wanted to share an image with you i took last year around this time in Finland.

Near kuusamo is a small stretch of river that doesnt freeze over and some 40-50 dippers winter here. Its a matter of putting up a chair by the river and wait and freeze!

Eventually a dipper was kind enough to start to sing!

This year i will be going to the southern part of Finland, on the Russian border to photograph Goshawk, Black woodpecker and Golden eagle.
For me Finland is the best Bird photography place in Europe, it has never disappointed me!

Nice image. I wish those dippers where over here more often. I never had a change to photograph them. I'd love to go to Finland someday. Must be a great country for photography! I'll be heading for Hungary and Texel during May and June. Ever been in Hungary?

Beautiful pose Rene, and you did well to capture one of these constantly moving little birds! My only nit is that the image looks very dark on my monitor with little face detail. I think the detail is there, and perhaps the shadow/highlight tool could bring it out and really show this very nice shot to its best!! 8) 8) 8) :)

Rene, bring back some more of your awesoeme Eagle shots!

Great job getting a Dipper singing. Needs some flash IMO.

you list the 550EX. I'm not sure if you had a chance to use it for this one, but the image would definitely benefit from some fill flash. With the 100-400, a flash extender might be needed as well.

Beautiful shot Rene. It sings from it's heart in such a graceful way and you've caught the moment on film yet again. May you continue to have the golden touch on your upcoming trip. ;)

Great capture, a little dark as mentioned above, although the northern european race is darker than the british / central european race anyway.

Love the drop of water on the tip of the beak.

Very nice. I think the flash fired ok but the image just needs to be brighter to see more detail. Really a wonderful image with the head up like it is and the rain drops. Good stuff.

Great singing pose and composition. Picture is a bit on the dark side, but you can recover detail in the shadows without big problems, especially if you were shooting in the RAW.

Great pose by this guy, Rene. I too think a tad of fill flash would have helped.

Cracking capture, Rene. I think perhaps the best exposure is somewhere between your original and Chris`s repost.
