Sorry. Just being goofy with the subject line, since I am late to the 'Mono Lake Sunset Party'. he he he. This shot was taken after a long weekend shoot with the late Galen Rowell. I was headed back to our home in the SF Bay Area, and decided to stop for a quick sunset shoot at Mono Lake. Anyway, I cranked through about 3 rolls of film in 15 minutes, recomposing all of these fancy shots, and trying weird things. Well, in the end, my first composition was the best, and is the most simple. I don't particularly like the 50/50 split, but the clouds sort of dictated that for me.

Nikon F100, 50mm f/1.4 lens, Velvia.

I'll bet seeing this slide on a light table is awesome! You really have a bit more sky up top so you don't have a strict 50/50 ... but even if you did, I would still like this. The simplicity of it (even though I know it was difficult to compose) really works.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Just another note: Don't you wish that some photos that you took were taken with large format gear? This is one of those situations where details could really make this a huge print for an exhibition. Just drives me nuts, as I didn't have my LF gear with me on that trip. Just drives me nuts. But then again, this particular 15 minute shoot was actually a film testing session. I wanted to get a feel for the new Kodak 100VS, compared to Velvia and Provia. Would have been an expensive shoot for 4x5!

Colors and composition are beautiful. I don't realy see this as a 50/50 split...seems to go along with the rule of thirds.

Very well done, Andy.

Not much to add to what's already been said.

Very nice! I think the 50/50 split works well here.

I also like it also. And it's more like 60/40. ;-)

I love it. Just wonderful tonalities and shapes with the reflection.

That said, I would crop to a TRUE 50/50 split. But that's just me.

Exactly what I was going to say. You''ve got the perfect reflection to pull it off.
