This was taken at Barnegat last Friday, the only day we saw any sun there. Canon 1D2, 600mm + 2x. All comments and suggestions for improvement greatly appreciated.

Bob, This looks like a Black-Bellied Plover to me and a nice shot of one. If you have it, I'd give back a bit more room on the left to not have the frame touch the rock.

Bob, I think this is a Black-bellied Plover. Great light on this. Nice and sharp too. I like how the rock balances the composition although I wish it weren't quite so close to the edge of the frame. Still a nice shot as is :-)

You may be right about the bird ID. I am not yet very good at bird IDs. I have to check the images against the drawings in field guides. According to the books I have, the Black Bellied Plover is 10.5-13.5 inches in length. This bird was nowhere near that long (more like 5-6 inches)

This image is full frame, so I can't recover any space there. The rock does not touch the edge of the frame, but things would probably balance nicer if it were a little farther from the edge. Thanks for your suggestions and comments.

Bob -

Nice shot. The head turn gives a connection to the viewer and lights the birds face well.

I agree with the others. It's definately a black-bellied plover. Semi-palmated sandpipers are not in the United States at this time of year.

A Black-bellied Plover and a perfect pose at that. Love the rock and diagonal ripples.

Hey Bob - it was a shame that I didn't get to meet you and some of the others this past weekend. Love the color you captured here with the slight break in the clouds! Hopefully the end of the month will be better off. I am going to check the NJ Audobon reports...

Excellent shot, Bob. The shape of the bill is characteristic of the plover family. Sandpipers have longer bills.
