Here's just a simple perched bird this time. I spent quite a bit of time looking for one perched in an aspen close to the trunk like this. Found this guy just after sunrise and he had fresh blood on his bill. He sat there all day!
20D, 600mm, ISO 200, at the meter with no comp. Beanbag from car window. Thanks for looking.

Very nice! I envy you your ability photographing birds of prey. I have almost nothing in this category. Thanks for sharing.

Jim- All of your Owl images have been to die for. A few friends and myself are planning to head North in search of these guys in a few weeks. You recent images have been very inspirational! :)

I have many shots like this near aspen trees. Lately I have been trying to focus on finding owls on mossy branches or in snow covered pines. I really like the aspens too though :) You should have let me know when you were coming up, we could have gone out together.

Cheers,

Nice shot Jim

Did you pay extra for the full sun upgrade on that area?
I was there 6 days- no sun.
I would think that would be a great spot in June
buggy as all get out -but it must have some migation and nesting ops

Just beautiful. I love how the feathers cover up the feet on the perch on these birds.

This is great, Jim. The whites are a hair over, just a small nit.

Nice image Jim I like the light color of the Aspen. I would like enough DOF to make the bark sharp.

Nice one! I like the angle of the aspen working against the angle of the bird. And the nice light is a bonus. You were really "lucky" to get it.

Seriously, I know one of your favorite quotes is: "Success is directly proportional to time spent in the field" (or words to that effect.)
