This guy was about 8 feet from our vehicle, and could never get a decent shot of him, as the lighting was dull on the subject, but perfect in the foreground foliage.

The first thing I thought about when this opened was how it would feel to be casually walking along, then looking to your side to see this guy looking at you!
Cool looking shot for this motif!!

I don't know. I agree with Michael  If this picture is supposed to give me the willies then it is definately a "decent" shot.

Maybe a not out in the open shot but this is a more than decent shot of him.

I can assure you that it is VERY scary . Walking in South Luangwa last year, suddenly 6 or 7 lionesses and maybe 5 small cubs jumped up and ran away. They were about thirty feet away in deep vegetation and the scout never saw them.

I like this shot a lot Andy. I get a real sense of his ability to disappear :)

Ideally, you wouldn't have the bright grasses in front, but I have to admit that the look in his eyes from behind the grass is enough to inspire serious respect! Being at roughly eye-level is another big plus!

This one gets your attention. It may not be the portrait you'd like to have, it is a fine environmental shot and lets you know he's there.

Nice work, Andy.

This is a nice shot, Andy. I really expresses how well African predators blend in with their environment. One thing that really made an impression on me was that for as hard as it was to see lions when they didn't want to be seen, I was even more amazed at how silent they are. They don't make a sound unless they want to. One suggesstion for an improvement might have been to find a vantage point where both eyes were clear of grass.

Very fitting shot for the motif. While the bright grasses are distracting-they could be toned down in PS- the intense stare of the lion and his blending into the environment more than make up for the nit. Well seen and taken.[/b]
