Canon 1D Mark II 600 Is Lens 1/1600 f10 ISO 400 BB at +1 Gitzo Tripod, Winberley Head.

It was a big surprise 3 inches of snow in Corpus Christi, Texas. Broke a record of more than 100 years. Since I was grounded at home, the reliable Mockingbird was feasting on the berries, the light was harsh but I have learned in NSN that in those cases an strong fill flash helps to decrease contrast.

All brutal comments are welcome, thanks for looking.

i like how snow effects bird shots! especially in the way the background looks blurred!

If you saw my comment on your last post, I mentioned how cool that image would look if you had some powdered snow on it...and now you pulled it off...

love it

Good use of ff too. The snow and the red berries put this over the top ...

Great shot, the perch, composition, sharpness and fill-flash all give me something to strive for. I especially like the fact that while this is perhaps not a spectacular bird seen like this it really has its own subtle beauty.

I'm headed out of town but had to comment on this one. It's gorgeous!! I'm laughing because I think you told me one time that it wasn't fair that you never got snow. LOL.....be careful what you wish for!!! Great shot!!

This is great Juan! Perfectly exposed and great use of flash. I must ask though, any reason for ISO 400?

Michael:

ISO of 400 in the Mark II has became my default ISO, is practically noise-free and with action shots the resulting faster speed becames handy, also in this case since the background was so distant I wanted to be sure the bird was sharp from head to tail, so I was using an smaller f stop.
