Bufflehead, Bucephala albeola, @ Bolsa Chica 11/25/04
Canon 20D, 600mm (300 f/2.8 + 2X TC), ISO 200, F/8 1/640th

One of the shots I wanted to dramatically improve on over last year was my Bufflehead and catching the radiant head coloration. So far I am pleased with this and have the rest of the winter to attempt more :D

Thanks for Looking. Comment, critique, and reposts welcome.

- Larry

Sweet shot, Larry. The iridescent colors on the head and neck are great. I wish only for a bit more room in front and on top.

Very nice, Larry, you caught the coloration on the neck nicely. I see it as a touch cramped in front also but not a big deal.

Well I think this has convinced me for sure that I need to make a trip to Bolsa Chica! I can't get anywhere near these guys around here. Would like this better if the crop wasn't so tight but otherwise an awesome shot Larry!!! :D I'm very happy to report that the 3 bufflehead who were so heavily oiled by the oil spill in PA were released at Blackwater NWR yesterday! :D

Larry,

Wonderful capture of the iridecent colors and with a neat head turn. THe purple color is also part of the wake. Just a bit tight, but space can be added.

I with Sandy here. I really love how even the water he has churned up looks irridescent!

Kim, that's great news :D

Congratulations on a difficult capture, Larry, particularly with only 600mm! These can be really challenging, particularly when actively feeding, as their time above the water averages only five seconds before they dive.

Beautiful shot Larry, These guys are tough not only to get close to but to capture the detail all round as you have here.

Larry, this is a beautiful duck. Based on the eye reflection, looks like it should be rotated a tad CCW. Very nice shot.
