Silvereye (Zosterops lateralis lateralis)
Just in time, only 2 hours left for this weeks motif by my clock.
A common old silvereye on a stick. The special purpose perch was pushed into the lawn and some bread thrown around. Easy.
Didn't have flash back when this was taken otherwise I might have used a little.

Please be as brutal as you like, I'm big enough and ugly enough to take it :)

Nice shot, Neil!
Like the drop wing pose and the dark bg really helps it standing out.
Perhaps a little over sharpening as is ...

Maybe you're ugly but you can take a pretty picture. I like your birdy. Looks a bit too sharp to me also---you're the victim of me and KK using LCDs. I had never considered the prospect of one seeming sharper than a CRT until Mr Peiker brought it up. Like your perch idea!!!

Sweet shot -- these are difficult catches and you've done well to get this one.

A nice profile shot that would look good in any Field Guide. A tad contrasty.

Nice shot. Maybe slightly contrasty... Dark BG is great.

Neil,

I like the side profile and the clean BG. Is this a close cousin of the Japanese White-eye? They look very much alike.

Neil, you did very well here. The dark BG really works here.

Same genus different species (Japanese is Z. japonicus). There are at least 85 species of white-eyes throughout Australasia and southewestern Pacific and a new one was discovered in the last year or so (I forget where). We only have the one species in NZ, a relatively recent self introduction from Tasmania.

Thanks for all the comments folks, it's much appreciated.
