Grazing Coot

Got this shot about an this afternoon on a nice cold clear day. These birds are often overlooked (also by me :)). Too bad, as their behaviour is quite interesting.

Jasper, this is very sweet. I like the low angle, exposure and the little blade of grass in his bill. The graduated BG is awesome too.

Very well done, Jasper. Whites under great control. Did you attempt to extract a bit more detail from the dark feathers of the head and neck?

Interesting behavior, indeed. "Crazy as a coot," is an expression that often describes their activity, especially when in the water.

Thanks for your compliments Kristi, but it's not an American Coot...it's an Eurasian Coot which looks slightly different from the one that you guys at the other side of the pond are used too

Kristi, this is a Eurasian Coot, but I agree it does look beautiful against the green bg.
Love the sharpness and exposure is spot on.

one of the best coot pics i've seen ! i don't overlook anything :) with enough skills a photographer can make anything, no matter how common, look good ! as you did here :) excellent !
