I aked this question quite awhile back with no reply - maybe I can get an answer this time around. Every time I try to use an emoticon I get text instead when it's finally posted to NSN. They always appear correctly in my preview, but when I finally submit, it changes to text. Help! :x:x:x

Do you have them enabled in your profile under board preferences? See below.

Yes, they are enabled - and just to be on the safe side I re-submitted them. Did they work?

Thanks Greg - although that was suggested to me in the past (which I tried a couple of times), for some reason the resubmission this time seemed to stick. Something different these last two times is that I'm getting a gray text box around my text. Is that normal and is that why the emoticons now work? :?:

Mark, In my experience the emoticons have been a hit-and-miss proposition since we moved to the new site. Sometimes they look OK in the editor, not in the preview, and are OK in the final message -- or some other combinaton. Initially the oops emoticon was a little elusive, requiring a non-intuitive sequence of keystokes. oops: then adding the initial colon to get
Which browser & version are you using btw?

Normally it's Google Chrome, and I seem to remember it acting the same in IE8.

Mark,
Summarizing what I saw in checking browsers earlier today:
- Chrome: the colon D big smiley didn't work if entered by clicking the icon in the editor panel
- IE8 and FF both worked satisfactorily
- Safari: didn't play well with Preview
