Zambezi Night

Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

EOS10D, Sigma 100-300 F4 + 1.4TC, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/200. Natural Light. Handheld.

Dave and I were fortunate that the camp, knowing our love of photography and wildlife, usually let us have a vehicle to ourselves. On several days, we stayed with the Lions after sunset to observe their night time activities, and on more than one occasion we watched them use trees to scout the landscape for possible prey. On this night I wanted to catch a shot just in the few moments between the sun setting and total darkness.

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

This is really cool, especially the colors in the sky. I just wish the second lions head didn't merge with the leaves behind it.

A classic shot that I can picture in any nature magazine. Way to go!

With fewer leaves, this would be perfect! But I'm still envious of you...

Wonderful shot. Better with a clearer view of the 2nd lion but this is still a cool shot. I'll bet this was really neat to see.

Very cool silhouette. Bumping up the colored parts and saturating them a bit could really make this be eye popping.

Thanks E.J., this represents the colours exactly as they were on the night. I might try your suggestion for an alternative image with a bit of tweaking! 8) :)
