This swamp image has me confused. There are some things I like and some I don't. It was early in the morning, the sun had not totally burnt off the fog.

Please let me know what you think.

I really like this! The fog is great and the contrasting greens and pink. I do wish the FG trees were just a hair sharper. Maybe a small amount of USM.

I think that this is wonderful myself Robert! :)
What is it that you don't like about it? Just curious.
I personally like the negative space right in the middle, and like EJ said, it is a intriguing piece to view. To me this really works well as my eyes flow around the image.

Hang it!

the colors and lighting in this image are beautiful !

i only wish to see more of the scene (wider angle?) - and a bit more sharpness in the foreground if possible

Mike,

I guess the main thing that bothers me is the vertical tree trucks on both edges of the frame. Also I wonder if the azaleas fit with the "wild" look of a swamp. This was taken at Magnolia Gardens near Charleston and it's a combination of natural swamps with planted domestic plants. Thanks for the nice comments, the print does look nice.

Robert-

This is really a beautiful study of the swamp. I love the dappled look of the water! The vertical trees are not an issue to me. I too have mixed feelings about the azaleas. They certainly provide a beautiful color contrast to the water. They do tend to strongly pull you eye to them, at the expense of the remainder of the photo. In my mind, the photo would be wonderful either with or without them. I think if you slightly burned in the brightest parts of the topmost cluster of the azaleas, this might increase the subtlety of the presentation, and decrease their dominance in the scene. Make no mistake, though, its simply beautiful as presented! :)

Magnolia Gardens. I know it well and love it down there! :)

Was this taken in the Audubon trail section of the gardens?
Will be heading back down there hopefully in a couple of weeks when things cool down a bit, and those skitters are not so bad!!

Mike,

Not sure as this was my first visit. As I remember, on the main road after the ticket booth but well before you get to the parking lot there is an access to a trail that goes on the left side of a large pond. This shot was only 100 yards or so from the main road. I got an annual pass and haven't had a chance to use it again but the money is going to a good cause. I was thinking of going this fall, maybe we'll meet up.

I like it a lot as is but I would be interested in seeing what a shot from a slightly lower POV would be like. My reasoning being that the foliage line from the LHS foreground tree ends to conveniently at the water line of the central background trunks. On the one hand that does give a smooth framing to your central empty area, on the other hand it just niggles me :(

Wondeful shot!

I love the pastel lighting. The red flowers really make this!
