I recently purchased a 3880 and I would like to try printing on 11x14" poster board. Anyone have any experience ?

TIA, Paul

Paul,
How thick is it. I believe you can print 1.2 to 1.5mm thickness on your printer through the straight path front feed.
You will get a much better print when printing on a high quality fine art or photo paper.
You can buy inexpensive pre cut 3/16" Bainbridge foam board with adhesive.
Peel the back stick your print on and trim. Pretty simple.

Hi Paul, the main thing to check (aside from the thickness that Dan mentions) is that the poster board surface is specifically coated for pigment inks. If it's not coated for use with pigment inks, then the print quality will likely suffer, and also is more susceptible to damage (e.g., smudging).

Hello Erik and Dan . . .
To answer your questions . . I have purchased FujiFilm Inkjet media (RC semi-gloss board)(from B&H). It is 1.2mm thick. Wgt is 540 gsm.

I had some collage prints made at Costco using this board and printed with their Epson 7800 and the results were OUTSTANDING !!

Thanks very much for your comments . .

Paul

Hello Dan . . . thanks for the reply. I looked on their site and asked Fuji for a profile and they told me to get one from Epson. I emailed Epson and their response was "predictable". "Not an Epson paper so we cannot help you !!" I have not yet tried to print on these boards. Do you have any suggestions about finding a profile ? Regards, Paul

I have downloaded a profile (for the Fuji poster board) used by Costco for their poster board prints done on their Epson 7800. Can I make this work on my 3880 ?

If Fuji themselves don't make a profile, you likely will not find one. Every paper manufacturer does their own profiles for their own papers... or not, as the case may be. For Fuji to suggest getting one from Epson is just ignorance on the part of whomever you talked to at Fuji.

I don't think the 7800 profile would be useful. The Epson inkset was changed from the x800 series to the x880 series, with the x880 introducing "vivid magenta" ink. Also, the 3880 heads are different and this may have a more subtle effect on things. You would likely be better off short term using a profile designed for the 3880 printer but for a different paper that had similar characteristics to the Fuji poster board. Longer term if you continue to use this media, get a custom profile done up. This typically costs only $20 - $30 and a bit of time, and would help ensure you're getting color reproduction better locked in.
