Hartmann's Mountain Zebra - San Diego Wild Animal Park, California
EOS 1D Mk 2, 100-400 @ 170, 1/250, f/8, Flash at full power, ISO 400

The San Diego Wild Animal Park in Escondido, CA is a huge place with extremely large habitats that are designed for various regions of the world. In these areas which can be many acres in size, animals from that region live in a an environment that is similar to the environment that these animals live in. The park offers caravans for photographers that take a safari vehicle out into these areas that normal park visitors are not allowed to venture out into. I went on one of these caravans late in the day last week - I visited South Africa and a Eurasian region. It was very interesting with a knowledgeable guide. For photography it is very difficult as much of it is severely backlit really testing photographic skills. Here is a zebra shot that I liked partially for its conveyance of vastness.

Nice one EJ. The placement is spot on and that look back puts it over the top.

The last time I visited that place it was the San Diego Zoo, and they had a bear that would wave to everyone as the bus went by. That was over twenty years ago

As Dave said, perfect placement for the impression you wanted, and the look back, the icing! 8) 8) 8) :)

Cool perspective EJ.. Made me wonder when I saw it about an airplane or balloon shot. Vastness depicted well, tough light handled well. Solid comp, subject isolated far to the left, with nothing else but simple green in between.. Good work..

Excellent EJ. My first thought on seeing the image was the vastness of the area where they live. Well Done!

I really like this for two reasons. First, the BW zebra vs. the bright green vegatation. Second, for the different angle. I've never seen the opportunity to shoot anything like this in Africa, and the composition is very effective.
