This was taken this morning just a few yards off Interstate 55 and the rain came a minute later forcing some drivers to pull over. The common spiderwort has been blooming in the prairie.

Jim, This is at the DesPlaines State Conservation Area near Elwood. (Blues Brothers fans will remember Akroyd's character named after this town.) Immediately to the west is the soon-to-be dedicated Midwan National Tallgrass Prairie, which has undergone a massive environnmental clean-up from it's former days as the Joliet Arsenal. (Joliet Jake was Elwood's brother.) I drive this stretch frequently to go downstate and I noticed the blue fields of spiderworts last week in the sunrise light, but did not have time to stop and this trip I had some time but the rain came! I'll see if I have any closer one's worth posting.
