My visit to Carden Alvar last Saturday was wonderful; though I did not get pics of the Bluebirds or the Bobolinks there were other birds equally photogenic.

While Ken Newcombe was following a Vesper Sparrow, Sam Barone & I followed this little wonder as it moved from bush to bush, it took-off for a distance a couple of times and eventually returned to the same bush. We got a few shots amidst the tangle of bushes and twigs, I would love to have gotten closer but was too afraid that it might take off again and did not want to miss a shot. It was about 5:00pm and I was tired, having been out since 6:30am and a 2 hour drive to Carden; it's such a lovely and beautiful place. I had yet to photograph the Osprey nest in Kirkfield and then head home for the return 2 hour drive.

I cloned out a twig just in front of the bird, any sideways positioning of the camera would have resulted in a white sky BG, so, this was the only position I could shoot from.

Thanks for looking and your comments are most welcome.

Cropped to Vertical, about 50 % of the original. Levels to brighten up a bit and USM 50 after downsizing; some may prefer a bit more USM, but, I dislike oversharpening.

A sweet catch of this little bird Lat, I love the head thrown back and open beak. Beautiful detail in the plumage and lovely colours. Ideally the lower right corner is a little busy, but that's where they perch!!

Very nice shot and its sharp enough on my monitor!! 8) 8) 8) :)

Fine shot, Lat. He's singing his heart out. I like the bird in the V of the branches. OOF branches below a bit distracting.

Nice shot Lat, hard to get this one without the OOF branches. I worked this bird again Sunday in diffuse light but never obtained a perfectly clean BG or side pose (but came close). The black flies made it hard to concentrate.

Great shot of this behavior. I especially like the view from the back of the bird showing its head feathers while still letting us see the singing action.

Nice one, Lat!
I can see a bit of noise getting through ... but not bad given it was a 50% crop already.

Great singing pose. Good idea to not opt for the white bg, this is very pleasing. Branches are unfortunate. Good job stalking him!

Lat, just wish he was a bit more profile. Love the BG. Great work getting him singing.

Well done, Lat!!! I was there Friday with a couple of birding friends and got only a brown thrasher on a fence!! It is a wonderful place for bird photography. Lots of butterflies and dragonflies and the wildflowers were pretty spectacular too!
