Smew

EOS300D, Sigma 100-300 F4+1.4TC, ISO 400, F8, 1/640. 550EX +BB -1

This little Smew had just had a bath and climbed out on a rock to preen his feathers. Taken on Saturday, a very hot day, when many of the water birds were sticking closely to the shaded areas around the lakes to keep out of the hot sun. We don't often see him out of the water so I had to record the moment - and his little turned in feet!! :) He looks so sleek on the water - and just the opposite here with his feathers all fluffled out to dry!

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

Lovely shot, Carol. This view is quite different from the ones you and Dave have posted. Just beautiful.

My Smew at the Wings of Asia exhibit has not tail since he is molting, also he is a lazy bum, Waits until the sun is high and harsh and then he goes swimming, impossible angles and a fast swimmer as well, the little trouble maker!!, Wonderful exposure and excellent detail, love his Pigeon Toed pose!! Congrats!!! 8)

Just lovely Carol. Razor sharp and super detail. The raised head feathers add a little life too.

Very nice capture of a bird I've not seen before. Would prefer the bird positioned more to the right, otherwise very nice image.

Sweet shot Carol.

Difficult to expose and you handled it well. I also like the turned in feet.
