Nikon D70, 600mm, ISO 200, f4 1/500

I saw this Cattle Egret through the trees while shooting spoonbills that weren't cooperating, and managed to get him with the six hundred almost over another photographer's lense before he took off. Could have been a bit sharper but at this magnification hard to spot.

I like the effect but with not quite so much OOF FG. Maybe crop some all round to reduce it. Good thinking though :)

This is almost a 'through the keyhole' effect! I like what you have tried to do if he wasn't quite so much right in the centre of the image. 8) :)

Very good effort on this. Need more room around the bird to take it to the next level. Good idea!!!

A fascinating effect, Brian Good eye. Wish you had used a 1.4 TC. In lieu of that, however, you could crop from the left and top provided the image of the bird holds up.

Brian, I like this image. Maybe a little too much OOF area. You could still get the point across with less I think. Looking at the three locations that you come from, I'm assuming this was taken in Louisiana?

Sorry about that Alan, yes this was taken at Lake Martin in Louisiana. And Sandy, yes I wish I had used a 1.4x tele as well, but I'm finding that I wish I did a lot of things after the fact. That's the learning curve I guess.

As far as center/off center, I think really the shape of the framing elements here and keeping them relatively uniform is the important bit.

Thanks,
Brian

An interesting view and quite a unique idea. I too would like a bit less fg but it really adds color and dimension. The bird is holding a great pose too.
