I thought I would post something different, or at least uncommon to this forum. As the peak season for migrating shorebirds draws to a close here in Delaware, I was out looking for red knots, without any luck, and the composition of some of the horseshoe crabs on the shoreline caught my eye. As I am trying to shoot with a more 'editorial eye' these days, I thought these images would work well alongside my shorebird images. For those who may not be aware, horseshoe crab eggs are the main food supply for the overwhelming majority of migrating shorebirds every spring, and the Delaware Bay is the best place for the birds to find this delicacy.

Excellent image! Very nice comp, like the crashing wave in the background. I agree it will go well with shorebird images..

Brett - why is that crab standing on his head? Very nice shot, as usual.

The crabs have a tendency to get turned over on their backs. The one you see here is trying to upright itself.

Brett,

I agree, this is a change of pace! I like the foreground, with the sand and the colored rocks/shells/ whatever! The crab on its head really sets off the rest of the image.
