I've looked long and hard in the area to find a Kestrel nest site that is not hidden by leaves or clutter free and this site is the best one so far. This is a dead cottonwood so no leaves cover the area. Unfortunately, the angle of nest never gets direct sunlight so I do the best I can. This was shot from a car blind about 75 feet away. Mom and dad are bringing in food in earnest. I prefocus the hole and hope for the best. This shot is not tack sharp but its close. The kids should be peeking out of the hole in a week or two.

I like it but think that a different angle eliminating the blue sky would allow more interest in the bird and it's details.

Fabulous shot, very well timed on the outstretched wings.

Rob, your persistence in finding a photographable nest site paid off. To me the Kestrel leaving the nest with his wings spread is much more dramatic than tack sharp focus on a perched bird. The focus looks fine anyway. This topic reminds me of the Northern Flicker nest shots in the new National Geographic.

Great job.

Very nice. I like the pose you captured with the out-stretched wings.
