King Cobra

This was taken during the Reptile Weekend at the Miami Science Museum a while back, every one who own a critter is welcome to bring it in, but no poisonous reptilians are allowed, This King Cobra belong to the Fish and Wildlife Commission, she was taken from his owner since it is prohibited to own such a powerful reptile without a proper and valid license, He was about 5 feet long and very aggressive, alert and impressive, Along with this snake there was a massive Gabon Viper, a Speckled Cobra and other lethal crawling critters!!

Great shot and wonderfully sharp! My first thought was that this was Sandy for a brief instant after you interrupted the flight of the Snail Kites near him. Then again I may be wrong.......

Wonderful Shot - Just can't help thinking he is saying " I Mean Business" so watch yourself. Compimentary BG coloring is great. I Like the all tan / neutrals composition.

Carol, thanks for the kind words!!, But to Caesar what's Caesar's, in reality most of the credit should go to Jill, it took a lot of persuasion to convince her that the Cobra was de-fanged, her courage is beyond words, The snake is taller than her , but with a steady grip she held the snake about a foot below the head and held her there for over ten minutes while I took these images, Later on I did not have the heart to tell her that it was a joke about the snake being de-fanged!!!

Wow! Great shot! The only thing I know that looks more fierce and sinister is a GBH as it is stalking food. Thanks for sharing.

What an incredible closeup.....and I thank you so much for posting it as this is the closest look at one of these guys that I want. I don't dislike snakes....I respect them. You go right ahead and shoot all you want......I'll be watching.......with binoculars!!!!
