Well I only saw several sika deer on the island and since they are probably one of my favorite deer here is a straight portrait of one. It is amazing how they flourish on the island. They stand about knee high at their back.

Very nice :!:

you have captured the attentiveness of the deer... Ears up a quick glance look...

Very good DOF to keep the head and front quarters in sharp focus.

70-200mm you must be able to reach out and touch them...almost

Great job on the DOF!

Is this an introduced species, or something local like the Key Deer in South Florida?

They are an introduced species that has really taken hold in certain areas, Assateague, Chincoteague, and in areas of Dorchestor County MD. For all intents and purposes they have been wild for nearly a hundred years. They are very nocturnal in comparison to whitetails.

There are several variations of sika deer. These average about 60lbs for a large female and 90lbs for a solid in rut large stag.

Being close and able to use a small focal length contributed to the DOF.
