Pretty sure it is a pie-billed grebe
D2H, 600f4 and 1.4 t/c, touch of fill flash

At first I was bugged that I was too tight and I had clipped the wings but on reflection I quite like it this way.

Juan (?) and I watched this guy for quite a while and I've got a nice sequence of him (the grebe not Juan trying to get an eyelevel gator shot) submerging that I was thinking of posting as an essay?

Thanks for looking, any advice/comments welcome.

ps: we need more bittern posts, those Q"$£$!"£%% Homer eagles have still got us way outnumbered

Bring on the essay. I like it. Not too tight for me, you have clipped enough of the right wing to make it look intentional.

Andrew, this is the best picture I have ever seen of a Pied-billed Grebe. Congratulations!

Andrew, I too like the pose and the setting. The little green bit on the head makes it for me.

Well done, Andrew.

The composition is fine and the action is really nice.

Andrew,

It is amazing how I have an image that is almost exactly the same... and I have it ready to post. I will wait a few days before doing so...

Like you, I did not like the tight crop at first, but the more I looked at it the more I came to like it. Awsome image.

The open wings are great, making this a very unusual capture. :D :D
