A lovely shot, Peter. The pose couldn't be better. The light appears harsh giving the image a bit more contrast than would be ideal.

where'd you shoot this? I definatly must be looking in the wrong places, but I haven't spotted any yet here in South Florida....

Great pose and wing spread. A little contrasty as mentioned but not bad. This has an Estero Lagoon look to it. Is that where you took this?

I don't think the contrast is too much. Really makes the bird pop and there are no objectionable shadows to be seen.

Love the pose and must offer my congrats on getting a sharp image with the 100-400 +2x. I tried that once, and granted it was on warblers, but I couldn't even come close!

I too will add my vote for Ding.

Well Done!

Nice display and great colors as well, more like a tad overexposed than contrasty, otherwise very nice!! Congrats!! 8)

I didn't think this was going to turn into a guess where it was shot contest. But that is good fun too. I shot this at Ding Darling NWR just past the tall handicapped new tower half way to the big left turn. I went below Wildlife Drive onto the yukky mud and shot toward the corner. It was before 9:00 AM in January and the sun was just one hour and forty minutes up.

If the image is contrasty that is because: (1) I had a real dark background and probably should have shot it at - 1 1/2 as well as -1 to bracket the exposure; and, (2) that is my taste in printing.

Thanks for the enthusiastic and encouraging critiques.

I will remember to right down exactly where I was on Sanibel or Captiva on my posts; but, as many know that is where I live and photograph birds. Feel free to get in touch with me for some hospitality and guiding around the Island.

Best,

Peter
