Whenever I try to reply by using the quick reply box, and I hit "Submit" I get an invalid form message, and it takes me to the "post reply" page, like the one I'm typing on now. At that point, I can hit "Submit" and it goes through fine, so it's not a big deal.

But is the Quick Reply not supposed to work like that? What's the difference between Quick Reply, and Post Reply?

Thanks.

David,

Are you sure you are hitting the "submit" button just under the quick reply field and not the larger "post reply" button further down? The quick reply allows just that - a quick reply without opening another page.

Whoops - I hit it expecting the error, but it worked this time. I think I'm about to double post. Anyway, not 5 minutes ago I got the error from hitting "Submit" - something like "The message created was invalid, please hit Submit again". I wonder if that only happens once per session for me?

Greg I just got this same message, ""The message created was invalid, please hit Submit again" but it has only happened once so far for me.
Thanks for Looking,

Hmm, this should not be happening. It's something for us to check on...

David and Doris, a couple of questions:

- How long do you have the page open before you try to submit a quick reply?
- What browser/OS are you using?

Reason for the first question is that the form is secured (from spam bots) by creating a session value. If that session value isn't passed in along with the form submission then you get the message you're seeing. I know the session has a timeout but I'm not certain right now how long/short that might be. (It's more than a minute, but I'm not sure how much more...)

I'm not sure how long I've usually been logged in, but I just now opened the browser and logged in and I'm trying this message in Quick Reply.

I've also used both Mozilla and Netscape, or Linux and PC. I haven't tried IE, but I could when at home.

NOTE : This posted fine using Quick Reply.

Nick I'm not sure how long, I don't think more then long enough to read and then reply. BUT I have not gotten the error since then.

I think I've figured out the situation, and I'm not sure it's a real problem. I just got the error by doing the following :

1) Open the browser and view a forum topic
2) Type a reply in the Quick Reply box and hit Submit
3) The site asks me to log in in order to reply, so I do
4) Hit the back button twice to go back to the forum topic, where the quick reply box is still filled out
5) Hit Submit again, at which point I get the error and it takes me to the "Post Reply" screen

I don't know if this happens if I use one of the links that are available after logging in, but I don't normally hit those since I think it would clear the quick reply box that I just typed.

David,

Sounds like it's definitely a sessions issue. Make sure you are logged in first and the problem should go away.

It is definitely a session issue. As soon as you navigate away from the page, even to login, you invalidate the session key which is specific for your user but also for when you first view the page.

I believe that you might be able to follow your steps and go back to the forum topic, and then hit the browser's refresh button, but since that will probably erase anything you have in the quick reply box it's sort of irrelevant.

I think we'll have to remove the quick reply box for users who aren't logged in.

Is there possibly a way to log in at the same time maybe? Maybe an option to input our login info and when submit is clicked, it does both?

I've not had the problem, but would be nice if it could be done. :)
