I went to plum island looking for Snowy Owls and came back with Sand Dollars. How's that for a return on an investment?

The marine intertidal is easily my favorite ecosystem; it's exotic, nearby (Most of us live within reasonable reach of a coast. ), as incredibly diverse as a rainforest, and you don't have to drive from one tide pool to the next. Every low tide is like an easter egg hunt, or, for that matter, a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get.

There was a bonanza of Sand Dollars strewn on the beach that day and, not being fussy at all, I put away my telephoto and went to work with my micro Nikkor.

Trusty ol' Nikon FE2, 200mm micro Nikkor F4, 1/4" @ F32 on Velvia. Metered on sand.

Peace, and may the light be with you,
Gustav

Lovely sparkles of gold with the sand dollars.

I'm thinking of heading up to Plum Island myself- lots of bald eagles in the area, some short eared owls, Northern Harriers.
