No, I wasn't in Antarctica. Would you believe Montauk, New York?
A couple of weeks back I spent a Day in the Field with Charles Glatzer hiking up and down Montauk Point looking for seals. It was 18º with 25mph winds, resulting in a -4º wind chill. The ocean was frozen from the shoreline out about 50 or more feet, and beyond that was the ice filled slush you see in this photograph. I was lugging around my new Nikon 500mm lens, used here for the first time. This image is the only real keeper of the bunch, as we sighted only a few seals in our 2 plus mile hike. Now that the pain in my legs has finally subsided, and I can feel my nose again, I can say it was a great experience that I will not soon forget.
