Cuban Emerald
Image
Canon 10D 100-400 IS @ 400 1/350 F6.7 ISO 400

Shot Friday near Varadero Cuba.
I usually try to get a few nature shots while on vacation, and last week was no exception, even though I didn't see that much. This guy, a Green Heron, an as yet unidentified sparrow-like bird, and a couple of Anoles were it for this trip.

I got up early on Friday, hoping for some brown Pelicans at the beach. No luck, but I did finally get one of these guys in good light.
Slight crop off the top, minor levels, and USM.
I considered cloning out the bright leaf, and hotspots on the perch, but opted to show it as-is.

Steve, I love this shot. The light on the bird is sweet. The hot spots do not bother me.

WoW
I never get so close with my 10D+EF100-400, and the direction of light working good here.

The bird, BG and light are all excellent. I find the leaf on the left distracting and I think that the image would be better with the leaf cloned out.

Other than the leaf on the left this shot is outstanding. Great angle, nice perch and awesome light.

The leaf is a distraction that could be cloned out. Now....the bird is sensational. I love the irridescence of hummers and this one is gorgeous. You caught it just right in the light. To think you were so close to use the 100-400mm is amazing.

I was looking at the bird, didn't even notice the leaf at first. Wow what vibrant colors.

The bird is truely awesome, the perch is fine, but I'm not crazy about the leaf & BG.

cheers, Oliver

Thanks all.
I was really fortunate to get this close a few times last week. Normally I wouldn't think this was a 100-400 bird at all.

I'll take a crack at the leaf later in the week.

Also, can anyone confirm the ID? My Sibleys doesn't have it, but I'm fairly sure it's a Cuban Emerald

You captured the shhen of this little bird extremely well. The leaf frame left is a bit of a distraction.

This is awesome! The bright leaf is just a minor distraction IMO.
