Like Bill's shots from a couple of weeks ago, this is from Guanella Pass east of Denver, taken in early March. I've only found these birds once up there in four trips, but they're a great shoot once located. Taken handheld while on my stomach on the snow with an F100, 80-400VR at 400, Provia 100F, 1/400 at f11.

Great photo but I think the shadow breaks the cool camo these guys are obviously capable of and therefore distracts a little. The bird is looking back to you nicely and the exposure looks spot on to me.

Great capture...what does it look like if you take all of the blues out? I know they make it look cold, but just curious...

Cheers,

This is sweet Matt. Exposure is great, a little on the blue side.

Excellent! Nice job on the exposure. Taking most of the blue out should make it even better IMO. Gotta add Guanella Pass to my long list of places I need to get to someday.

Ah, this is the picture you were telling me about! I think it's great. I would reduce the blue channel a bit.

Excellent shot.

Being up above 14,000 feet in elevation causes the blue sky to deepen its color. Provia really picks that up. My shots were under an overcast sky, on Sensia, and they still had a blue cast to them. I desaturated the blue channel 100% - in retrospect I think that was too much.

I love the over the shoulder pose. :)

I lke this Matt and the blue IMO adds the right amount of coolness to the image and appears quite natural to me.

Very nice! I love the head turn but also think I see a slight blue cast. What a beautiful bird.
