This was from a blind I was working in last spring. I get to know many of the cardinal families in my yard and often can identify individuals. This male has an old leg injury and the right leg, seen here, is atrophied and has only partial function. He seemed to be thriving in spite of this handicap and was only at somewhat of a disadvantage in his footwork on the ground. The other foot looks like a raptor's talon!

Steve, I really like the mixtures of reds and greys in this image. I feel sorry for the bird but it appears that he has adapted well to his injury. Nice shot.

Injury or not this is a gorgeous Cardinal -- I have a Cardinal completely missing a tail but have yet to get a picture of it.

Despite the leg this is still a very handsome fellow. :D Very good pose and the background couldn't be better!
I've got a tail-less chickadee that's been visiting my feeders for the last few months - it flutters around without any noticable problems, until the wind picks up...

cheers, Oliver

This is a terrific shot, Steve. A beautiful bird, perfectly exposed and composed against a great background.

Excellent photograph!! I love the pose. It always amazes me how well they adapt to their injuries. :D

Very nice Steve! I really like the way the bird stands out against the subtle background.
