10D 100/400 with 1.4 TC 1/800 @ f8.0 monopod sidekick

Taken 1/5/04 at Anclote Key, Florida. This osprey was keeping his eyes on me and watching my every move. There was a pair and they were just getting ready to start building a nest in this tree. Last year a very inept pair tried to build a nest here and it kept falling down and they finally gave up and moved to a different tree.

I like the stare down pose...I might tighten up the crop a bit, a little less at the top and bottom perhaps....

Cheers,

Here's looking at you, Michael. A crop from the bottom especially seems to lessen the angle. Very nice!! :)

So cool when you get one of these starring you down...very nice shot. Agree on a bottom crop as another possibility.

Michael,

This is a very nice shot. I really like the eye contact. A crop to just above the lowest branch really strengthens this for me.

Well done!!

Neat stare Michael. I agree with the crops suggested.

Michael:

I like the shot--and agree with the suggestions of others as to the crop. My only nit (and perhaps an unfair one) is the color of the sky--What did you use to do the conversion? PS 7+ Adobe Raw or PS CS?

Thanks for all your comments. I also agree with the crop suggestions and will incorporate it in the final print.

To answer Rocky's question: I use Photoshop CS and the Raw conversion included. The sky in Florida is quite intesnse in color, particularly in the winter months. I did increase the contrast a little which pumped up the sky color a little, but let me put it this way you don't need a filter to boost sky color here!

I like to see wood with birds and the sky is as intense as the stare. Good photo. How do you like using a monopod for your support? Do you always go with this or is it used in certain situations?

Michael:

I photograph in FL all the time too! I vary between using the Adobe Converter and BB. If there is significant blue in the image I tend to use BB.
