EJ,

Nice shot. I like the pose with the outstretched neck.

Looks pretty close- Would I be able to work these guys with a 400 and a film body and get good shots? Excellent shot.

They are extremely tough especially in the swells and it took 3 days to get this close one single time. Most of the time a 600 with a 1.4x and the 1.6x digital factor was barely enough.

A lovely bird that I would kill to photograph! Maybe it is my monitor, but I think it is underexposed. I think it would look better with a bit more light on it. Unfortunately, the whites will be really bright , but I think with birds like this, that it is acceptable, otherwise the majority of the image is just too dark.
Some day maybe we'll have a medium that can record ten stops of light!!
Beautiful bird and it sounds like you really had some tough conditions!

Superb EJ,

This made the trip worthwhile. It's hard to imagine how close in he must have been to get this image.

Not underexposed at all - just prepared on a poor laptop screen as mentioned in the description of the photo. If its way too dark then I think your monitor is not calibrated properly for contrast and brightness as i am now viewing it on a calibrated reference monitor and while its dark, nothing is blocked up.
