I took your advice from my last flamingo shot and set out to do better :)

This obliging chap gave me the opportunity to try again. I placed the head higher in the frame this time.

What do you think now :)

Dave, I have taken the liberty of tweaking your image a bit, The exposure is pretty good as is but it could take a touch more brightness, So I did in levels, it's eye as presented is underexposed and devoid of spark, I brought the detail out and enhanced the dominant existing reflection !!
I also would have given it a little more room upfront for my taste, But very nice as is!!! Congrats!! 8)

Killer detail. Nice composition. I especially like the tip of the bill peeking out. :D

Very nicely done, Dave! Great detail in the feathers, perfect composition and the exposure is nice. I like that rapier-like bill protruding below from the feathers.

Great shot! The repost by Alex displays it even better. The tip of the bill coming throught the feathers adds to the image. Nice job!

Alex - Thanks for the tweak :) I have a second version of this one that I've been using to try to understand curves in PS. I had managed to get it a little lighter with more detail in the black feathers, but the whites ended up a little on the blue side. I'll get there one day.

Cheers
Dave

Both versions work for me. A catchlight would take this over the top.
