This was shot on an extremely foggy day on the Toronto lakeshore. I had to clone out a couple of small twigs and USM 200. A nice specimen that only allowed one shot, thats all I got. Crop is about 40% of original.

Thanks for looking and your comments.

Lat, this is a nice shot. To avoid the high key effect, you could have reduced ambient exposure by 2-3 full stops and used flash as main light, making sure that your flash sync speed was not exceeded. In this situation the flash controls exposure of the subject and the ambient setting controls the background.

It's a technique to practice. It will come in handy over and over again.

Sandy definitely has it right for this photo. Nice job of getting the bird in focus.

Another chance for me to say that I like high key images. The subject is properly exposed. I don't see why a grey sky would be better than a white sky since the sky is not the subject. Just a matter of taste.

I think its well done as is but the technique above, and I would only darken this sky one stop, would work very well with this shot.

This is a nice shot Lat, clean BG perch and pose optimum, the high key BG works well sometimes. A bit of flash would help brighten the bird, a bit more USM and saturation also.

This is a beautiful shot Lat! I love the pose and the composition on this one and all it needs is a little more USM to really pop him off the screen!

Great shot!! 8)

This little guy is very nice..with a wonderful pose. Perhaps a little more USM if it can take it. Sandy has a marvelous suggestion with flash. It's something worth playing with as down the road it can be very helpful but this one is nice as is.

The background doesn't bother me. I notice the limb behind the bird is in perfect focus, I think maybe you missed a lock on the focus. It's a tad soft. The composition is excellent! I like the strong diagonal lines of the limbs and the cross diagonal of the bird. Getting shots of these little guys ain't easy. Congrats. Bill
