First, this is a CAPTIVE bird, photographed at the Ecomuseum de Montreal. They have a small pond (10x5m) with a variety of waterfowl. Photography there is not easy, access to the pond is only from two sides, the sun is never in perfect angle and there is so many ducks that it is difficult to isolate one. I was lying on the wooden board under a bench to lower the angle as much as possible, you can not get lower there and at the same time have a good light. I would wish for even lower angle, but still was happy with the result - I like the pose and the colour of the water (in reality it was ugly muddy water, but from this angle and with the sun it is pleasing to my eyes). It is hard to keep whites from overexposing with these ducks, I don't know if it is even possible (advice appreciated). I am aware of the whites on the bill being overburned.

EOS 10D + 400/5.6L (Hi Scott  ), handhold, almost full frame, some cloning of dirt on the water

Thanks for looking

Captive or not, these can be challenging to photograph but you handled it very well!

Nice shot in a hard to work place! Great colour and exposure and you did well to get as low an angle as you did. Is this the place they used to call the Biodrome where the cycling track was in the '76 Olympics?

Scott, Ecomuseum is on West Island, close to Morgan Arboretum.

From their website (http://www.ecomuseum.ca):

Located on the island of Montreal itself, the Ecomuseum is a private, non-profit, 11.3 hectare educational wildlife park - operated by the St. Lawrence Valley Natural History Society - where you can observe and study indigenous fauna and flora in their natural habitats.

The detail in the whites and dark areas is very good.

That eye really get your attention.
