Something that came as a total surprise was the amount of dust turned up at Bosque when cars would pass you.
Now that I am home and getting my equipment unpacked I can see the coating everywhere -- any recommendations for removing the dust from say your 500 or 600mm lens? Are generic wipes safe for the lens (not the glass of course)?

TIA,

Well, you'll be glad to know they "watered" and graded the road Monday after the big weekend. It does help a little, but my gear is still coated with dust, too.

For the exterior, non-glass surfaces I use a soft paintbrush (a trick I learned from Richard Hogg). This usually does the trick. I also try to clean off my gear before I put it in my Lowepro because once the dust/sand gets in there it can get back onto cleaned equipment.

For the lens glass, I use a bulb blower first then the Eclipse cleaning fluid and a clean microfiber cloth.

I just use a slightly moist towel on the surfaces of the lens. On the lens element itself I use a blower brush first followed by a microfiber cloth that is moistened with a quality lens cleaner.

I use the vacum with a soft brush to clean the exterior of all equipment.

Second the paint brush. Turner River Road has the same problem, as does crawling around in the sand on the beach.
