I took this one back in September at the NWR just south of here. I don't think I've posted it before. Forgive me if I have. I'm curious to know what people think of it. Comments, critiques and reposts welcome.

Michael, This is a great capture. I love the pose and the softness of the water.
I did think that the left breast was a bit hot so I re-worked in ps a bit...hope you don't mind :)

I think it helped bring out the feather details a little more...

Very nice! The head & bill shape say Trumpeter Swan to me. What specific characteristics point to Tundra Swan for my education. Thanks

Nice shot Mike, even if the water isnt amazing :D . I do like David's repost except he overdid the shadow lightening resulting in halos. A bit of highlight reduction only would help.

David, thank you for the repost. I'll have to play with it some more and see if I can't duplicate that. Most of my images are prepared on my laptop and issues with brightness/contrast and highlight detail are the risks that come with that. :-)

When I first saw the bird the ID had me going a little bit too. Trumpeter should have an even more elongated bill resulting in a longer sloping forehead. In addition, the shape of where the bill meets the front of the forehead is diagnostic though hard to see at this angle. While I first noticed the orange on the bill and that pointed me toward trumpeter, this bird does have a small yellow patch on the bill near the eye which is also diagnostic for Tundra.

Thanks Michael,

I noticed the yellow/orange spot on it's bill but couldn't tell if it was part of the bill or a piece of flotsam from the water. I thought Tundras had a more rounded head than this bird but you saw the bird and all I get to see is one photo so I'll defer to your ID. Thanks again.
