Bird Eating Vireo

Well it seems I discovered a new Species today at Jones Beach when I found this Vireo feeding on a Song Sparrow. :wink:

Canon 1Dmk2 500mm f4 2x, Tripod, Manual exposure sunny 16 1/1000 @ f10 Iso 400, Auto focus.

Sparrow, the other white meat! Nice capture... never heard of Vireos eating another bird before.

Nice capture! :wink: I also think it was feeding on the maggots and/or other insects that came to feed on the dead bird.

Jimmy, I bet if you zoomed in ou might see that little worm by the eye. I can't imagine he was actually eating the bird, but who knows. A very good behavioral shot.

Vireos are closely related to shrikes, which of course are highly carnivorous.
