First Summer Male Blue Grosbeak. This image was captured across the street from the Mulberry bush on April 27, 2005. The BG was a considerable distance behind the subject.

Nikon D2X, 500mm Lens and 1.7X, 1/250 @ f8, ISO 320

Make your plans now for the end of next April!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lovely capture Hugh, great detail and background.

Would add a tiny bit more at the bottom, just a sliver though.

Hugh, a nice capture of this little guy in his intermediate plumage. Great light & detail, and the perch is nicely in focus from one side to the other.

I agree with Colin that it is a little tight along the bottom in terms of "normal" proportions. But IMHO the perch compensates by running completely across the frame, forming a solid boundary and directing attention above the line. So it works for me. My $0.0173 worth (based on today's exchange rate)...

Nice capture Hugh, perhaps tone down the perch some?

Nice shot with good detail and color, Hugh!
Another option is to take some off the top, left and right to balance ...

Nice image Hugh... I like the line thru the image created by the perch. I agree with just a sliver added to the bottom, but would leave everything else the same. :)

Beautiful Hugh. Love the color, pose and detail. I would use a blur tool to selectively diffuse the edges of the two circular faint BG elements above the head and back.

Great detail! Agree with needing to add more to bottom or KK's suggestion. Nice image Hugh!
