Whimbrel in the surf

1D MK II, 300 f/2.8 w/2X TC, 1/1250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 400

I normally always strive to get the bird's head position toward the camera a few degrees but in this photo I actually prefer the composition with the Whimbrel looking away just a tad from the camera surveying the Pacific.

This is nice Steve, Whimbrels on the California coast can be quite flighty. Nice foot up, the head turn is not bad at all IMO. nice touch of surf on the bottom left.

The way the surf frames the Whimbrel's head sets this off, Steve!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the elements of this one come together very nicely. The fact that the surf line BG shifts up to encompass the head is especially nice! :D :D :D
