It always seems strange to me that here it is 95 degrees every day, but many birds are already in their winter plumage. Guess they operate on a different time system than we do. :)

1DII with 500, ISO 400, f9, 1/2,000. Cropped a wee bit from horizontal.

Oh, lovely shot Bruce. The pose and exposure are both perfect.
Guess it's like us here in Quebec ... start the day in fall clothing, but we get to shed a layer as it warms-up during the day :D . Amazing fall we're having.

Nice flight shot, Bruce!

The commonly used reference to "winter" plumage really has nothing to do with winter, but to the non-breeding status of the bird. Plumage should really be thought of as "basic" plumage vs. "breeding" plumage.
