Fab

Was the color corrected? If it was I sure would like to have seen the original to understand what people were talking about.

Nice flight shot.

Never seen one of these. You are a natural bird decoy  :)

I'll explain what some people may find *odd* about this image.

For us Floridians, this is an accomplishment, since these birds soar soooo high, it's almost impossible to get any detail in them, unless special circumstances like Jason Hahn can get while they are perching with the sun shining on the underwings and within short telephoto reach.
I have tried, as Al with me, to get them under normal circumstances, even over white sand, and gliding ever so slow, and their color together with the long distance makes this a VERY hard task, specially to get detail under those wings with the sun shinning above. No flash is going to reach up there!

This is over a 50% crop of an image with the 500 plus 1.4 converter, so you can figure how hight the bird was.
I isolated the sky and put more blue on it and duplicated the layer and multiplied it, reduced the opacity and masked the underwings. My new monitor is nor calibrated yet, so I have no way to tell how red or magenta the thing is.
I was extremely excited to be able to see, let alone capture such behaviour, and get a fairly sharp image of it handheld.
When I go to Galapagos, I'm sure I could do better than this
Thanks all for your comments, they are always very much appreciated and vital for my growth :D

best and love, artie
Artie...have you seen this red oversaturation in the Canon Mark II. I ask because I have had some problems with this. Canon had me send my camera back to them. I have Hal's camera body now that he leant me since we are right in the middle of portrait season.

Everyone I have talked to says that by shooting in RAW this will eliminate the problem but I see it in the RAW images too. Canon didn't really have an answer for me.

I'll have to try your fix.

Fabs,

We know what a tough job these guys are to shot and get detail in all tha black especially when they are so high up. :D Nice to see a shot of a male with the throat patch inflated.

I have posted one here today I shot at Mag Frig Island when out with Jason. Please take a look.
