This is an Eurasian Eagle-Owl taken this past April in South Dakota at a photo shoot set up by Les Voorhis. Eagle-Owls are some of the most spectacular owls on the planet, and I felt priveleged to be able to get a variety of shots. Unfortunately the cold weather and driving wind prevented some setups, but hopefully in October things will be better.

I know the standard comment here is going to be "I wish the bird was farther right in the frame", and I guess that would be better, but I wanted emphasis to be on the eye, so I kinda centered it in the frame.

Canon Eos1dMkII, 400mm f/5.6, ISO 250, 1/160th, f/9.

I don't mind the centring of the image at all. The eye is a very strong element and dominates the shot. The colour of the eye is impressive.

Nice detail too.

Composition works fine for me Chris, the eye and beak both pull you to the left. Very nice detail here.
