as i approached these juveniles (hooded mergansers?) this am in my canoe, a really large bald eagle swooped down over us - right out of a tree about 30 feet away, where he must have been waiting for breakfast.

saw 3 bald eagle today, all so close that the beat of their wings sounded like a nazgul sound effect from lord of the rings.

They are common mergansers, btw.
