This spring a pair of loons spent about a week in Harrisburg during their migration and I was so sad when they left. Canon Elan 7e, 100-400 IS, Provia. Would this be better as a square crop with some off the right?

If you cropped anything off the bottom I'd "put" a little back for balance - the bird would look better a little higher in the frame. If that's not an option, I think a possible composition for this is to take quite a bit off the top so it's a pano with negative space on the right, with as much room from the head to the edge as from the tail to the edge. (Just remember it's all subjective, but I think that would help balance out the tight bottom.)

What a treat to photograph loons, huh? The same pair just might return to roughly the same place, check next summer. :)

It is an awesome experience being with these beauties. Heather made some great suggestions.

Heather has already given great ideas on how to present this neat image, Kelly. Lcuky you to have them, if even for a short time.

Thanks for the feedback. There is no more room on the bottom on the original, and this was one of only a few slides that were at all usable from several rolls. These loons were the final straw that made me switch to digital, since a histogram would have helped me correct the exposure problems.
