Blue Grouse

I found a cooperative family of Blue Grouse in Yosemite; this bird was taking a momentary break from preening. I like the simple background and ten grasses echoing the shapes of the bird's back and head.

Technical stuff: 35mm film SLR, Provia 400F, 280mm lens.

Hi, Doug,

Beautiful bird! Scrolling around, I find I also like this cropped a touch tighter from the bottom and left.

I also like the way the grasses mimic the curve of the head but... I'm only counting three not ten, blades of grass. ;)

The scan looks very well done from here!

Though at first I wanted a lower angle, on second thought I think the angle works fine but it would be stronger cropped. Personally I'd take off the bottom and RIGHT, not left as was suggested earlier. I want the head in the UR power point for impact. I like the angle for the feather detail it provides.
