This is a male Columbian trig photographed on white. As you can see he is using the "toes up" posture that was seen in the Handsome trig shot from yesterday. I have no idea why they don't like to have their toes down on the substrate they are on. Looks kinda weird.
EOS 1Ds, 180mm macro, 1.4XTC, f/29, 1/125 sec, two flash units through white Plexiglas, ISO 200. In PS, levels USM and cropped.
Comments welcome,
Wil

I like that you photographed it against the white background. This one is kinda cute.

Neat! I've not seen white used as an insect background before- I'm surprised at how good it looks. I like the shadow but wish all of the antenna were in the photo.

Interesting, both the image and the behavior lesson. Great detail. I wonder how long the antennae really are

That is a problem with photographing orthoptera. Their antennae are much longer than their bodies and if you pull back enough to include all of them then the insect is much smaller in the frame and you loose a lot of detail. It is a trade off and I think that I prefer more detail in the insect at the expense of including all of the antennae.

Great shot Wil, In the UK when we say 'toes up' it can mean something is dead! so I was half expecting to view a corpse!!

Glad it isn't!!

Wonderful detail and really good against the white BG>
